# 🚀 My first week at UHM | A Brand New Life
Before preparing for the start of school, I did several things, including applying for RCL, taking the English placement test, moving into the dormitory, and participating in activities arranged by the school for exchange students.
This week, I finally succeeded in getting my debit card, which means I can finally pay my tuition (congratulations!).
Labor Pains
Is this commonly used? Anyway, during these two weeks (from when I opened the document to uploading it took several days), I have spent quite a bit of mental energy adapting to a completely new living environment.
My courses are going smoothly (after all, there are only two), one is General Physics II, and the other is an English course for international students.
I discovered this week that the KOKUA PROGRAM does not assist with the international student visa application process, so! I need to fill out another form and contact the International Student Office (ISS), basically just waiting for the review (since I have gone through the counseling process).
Additionally, there is the issue of prescription medication. After consulting with the counselor, I made an appointment at the school’s clinic (health center). Since I haven’t received the insurance bill yet, I spent $28 to see the doctor, and then the doctor told me she couldn’t prescribe this type of medication.
So am I really registering just for the prescription? Of course not! It’s because I can’t sleep well in the dorm (not excluding the possibility that the air conditioning is too loud), and I thought I could ask the doctor if she could prescribe this type of medication. The result was the doctor told me I could buy melatonin at the supermarket, which is super useful 🤡
Meal Plan
The biggest problem with living in the dorm is that you need to join the meal plan provided by the dining vendor, with a minimum of 7 meals per week.
Here’s a brief introduction to this meal plan:

If you live in the school dorm (on campus), you are required to join the meal plan, just like in most universities, and it’s American-style dining (?). The meal options are typically the same, consisting of burgers, fries, pizza, and other high-calorie foods. Sometimes there are other delicious options, depending on luck. There is a website where you can check the menu, but it doesn’t include pictures, so you still have to decide for yourself (?).
I joined the minimum of seven meals per week, and even so, I still can’t use up all these swipes.
Returning to the Embrace of Paper and Pen
During these two weeks, I have often been using the computer, but in the end, I returned to the embrace of paper and pen.
This makes my eyes feel more relaxed, although I still bought some scan-friendly paper (which is indeed a bit redundant).
